Princess of.....Everything!

Ever since Sarah was born we have sung this silly song with lyrics that include "Sarah Beara...princess of everything".  At some point she started to sing along and finish the sentence before we could.  It's always been a funny joke in our house.  For her birthday this year a friend gave her a tiara and wand.  She has worn that tiara every day since she got it.  I'm starting to believe she's the real deal!

All Smiles For The Dentist

Kurt is not your average Dad.  He laughs in the face of a challenge.  He is SUPER Dad.  The kids had a dentist appointment (their first) and he volunteered to take the three of them by himself.  Some fathers don't even want to be left alone to care for their children for an hour let alone load them up and haul them all to the dentist.  But he did it.  And thankfully the kids were well-behaved and enjoyed their first visit.  All 3 had x-rays taken, their teeth cleaned and polished, and a fluoride treatment.  At the end they were rewarded with goodie-bags of toothbrushes, stickers, toys and they even got a balloon.  The doctor said all three looked fantastic.  The only concern is to keep an eye on Sarah's thumb-sucking.  We may need to start intervening if she is not giving it up naturally.  She's already starting to get an overbite.

The Easiest Party Ever!

A few months back we went to a three year old's birthday party at an indoor play-center and the kids just had a ball.  I wasn't really even thinking about their birthday at that time but they had so much fun I thought I'd look into it.  After checking a few different places, I realized this would be way out of our budget.  But I only checked on Saturdays and Sundays.  When I found out Friday nights were about half the price, I knew we could do it.  We had the party at Monkey Joe's and it went great!  The staff there was so amazing.  They took care of everything for us and made the whole thing really simple.  As the mom, I usually end up running around everywhere getting things done.  But this time I actually got to sit back and enjoy.  It was wonderful! And the kids had the time of their lives!

A very special welcome to the party

3 Year Checkup

Today we took the kids to their pediatrician.  The doctor was very pleased that all 3 are hitting their milestones on target.  I asked the doctor about Jacob not being able to say his "F" & "S" sounds. She was not worried. She said many kids have trouble with those letters. She said if it's still a problem at their 4 year checkup then we may be referred to a speech therapist. The kids were very well behaved and polite & loved playing with all the doc's instruments- flashlight, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, etc.

Here are the kids' stats along with the how they compare to others their age:

Sarah is 37in tall (41%) & weighs 32lbs (63%)

Jake is 36.75in tall (25%) & weighs 33lbs (64%)

Luke is 37in tall (31%) & weighs 34.5lbs (77%)

I think Luke must have been retaining water or something because he usually weighs less than Jake.

The Trio's 3rd Birthday

Today the trio turned 3 years old.  Wow, that sounds like a huge milestone.  But I know in the blink of an eye I will turn around and they will be 5 and starting kindergarten.  And on and on.

Around lunch time we met up with Nana, Pa, and Nanny for a birthday lunch at Chili's.  It took two hours (and made the kids cranky) but we still had fun.  Later, Mimi, Papa, Memaw, and Bob came over for dinner.  More gifts, more fun, and more sugar.

By bedtime the kids were tired and cranky.  But mercifully they went to bed easily and I haven't heard a peep since.

I thought it would be fun to make pictures of the kids then and now.  What a difference 3 years makes.

Happy Birthday Eve!

The majority of dates that pass by don't leave an indelible mark on your mind.  But some do.  One of those days was three years ago tonight.  It was a Tuesday.  I was on day 21 of hospital bed-rest.  To say I was restless and wanted to leave the hospital was a HUGE understatement.  The day before on Monday I had a decrease in platelet count and other key labs that concerned the doctor.  But by Tuesday things had leveled out and I actually showed a slight improvement.  The doctor was very impressed with my progress and predicted I could possibly go another few weeks.  I was determined to do it.  Then overnight the bottom fell out.  Things suddenly took a dramatic turn and the doctors felt it was best to deliver the babies.  My blood pressure was sky high and all my lab work showed things were going south fast.  I was determined that this was just a road block and we could push on.  But I got some "tough love" from the doctor who delivered the triplets and I finally conceded that delivery was best.  So Tuesday, the calm before the storm, is one of those days that will be etched in my mind forever.
The arrows show the approximate head placement of each of the babies- Sarah is pink, Jake is green, & Luke is blue

Holiday happenings...in a hurry!

I looked down at the blog today and realized it's been a few weeks since I posted.  I hate when I do that.  I feel like I have to cram in a bunch of stuff (like a highlight reel) in just one post.  There's no way to really tell everyone everything we did.  But of course I'll try.

The kids had a Christmas program at their school where they sang their version of the 12 Days of Christmas.  Their version had just 5 days.  Lucas was a part of the "5 ornaments" group, Jacob the "3 silver bells"  group and Sarah the "2 strands of light" group.  It was absolutely adorable.  They love their preschool so much!  Sometime after their birthday they will be moving up into the next class.  They will miss Ms. Kristen so much.

Christmas morning was absolutely magical!  Kurt and I stayed up late to put the train table together and the kids were blown away Christmas morning.  I'm glad my Mom took some video of it.  The kids were spoiled at every family gathering and they now have petitioned to have Christmas every month.  Luckily our house in not a democracy!

For New Year's Eve we used a half-off coupon to go see the lights at Lake Lanier.  The kids absolutely loved all the displays.  Jake liked roasting the marshmallows and Lucas liked playing under the snow maker.  I sure hope we get some real snow here this year so Lucas can see actual snow not just ice shooting out of a machine.  Sarah just loved everything.  We put the kids to bed around 10pm and Kurt and I toasted the new year on our sofa.  It was just where I wanted to be.

In a few days the kids will be having their 3rd birthday.  I can't believe we have ever made it this far.  Our munchkins are growing up.
