Babies- the first month

Last Saturday the babies were 1 month old. Time seems to be going by so fast. And so much has changed in the last month. A month ago they were these tiny little creatures who could hardly breathe or eat on their own. Now they are strong, vibrant newborns. We are already having to put away all the boys' preemie clothes. Even a few of Sarah's preemie sleepers are snug. They are just growing so fast! Sarah and Luke are taking 3 ounces of breastmilk or formula at every feeding. Jake is our hungry boy and he takes a full 4 ounces at every feeding. We were a little worried the other day when Luke had not pooped in a day and a half. When he was finally able to go, it was a total blowout! It has been a challenge to get organized and figure out a routine but we're learning. Elizabeth has been a huge help at getting organized. Now I just need to pick up a few items at Walmart to finish the job. Having things handy and easy is already making our lives easier. Work smarter, not harder, right? Here are some pics of the babies snuggling in their pack-n-play and their "1 month" pics.

  3. Kelly,

The babies look great! Congrats on getting them here so big and healthy and on making it through the first month or so. It gets easier, believe me!

One of the hardest things for me in the beginning was that we got nothing from the babies -- no smiles or recognition. Once they started to smile and coo my whole world changed. :) And then in no time they are trying to move around, rolling over and more.

Just know that it will get easier, and kudos to you for all the work you are doing to give them breastmilk. I applaud your efforts. I quit pumping every few hours at night once my boys reached 6 weeks, which is when the experts say your babies have gotten the most out of your breastmilk in terms of antibodies etc. I still nursed them and pumped between nursings, but giving up all those extra pumpings at night let me start sleeping 5-hour stretches, which also made things much better!

    Hope you are well,

    Christy
